May 2013 Session Theme:
Keeping Cool when Pitta Peaks

Early summer in Austin is a time of explosive energy, outward-moving activity, and a quickened pace – a welcome change from Spring’s heavy stuck-in-the-mud-ness. By mid-summer, however, a relentless outpouring of energy combined with our astronomical heat can leave us depleted, dried up and burned out.

Come explore how to ride the wave of increasing warmth into the longer, light-filled evenings AND at the same time prepare our bodies and spirits to withstand the coming onslaught. Let’s enjoy the surge of energy and motivation, and direct it in a wise way to preserve our health – and our sanity.

In this 6-week series we will explore:

  • The most powerful practice to transform Pitta’s burning heat and mental drive into peaceful contentment
  • How to stay cool – literally – through specific asanas, breathing practices and marma points
  • Strategies to pacify tricky hot emotions like jealously, impatience, and anger
  • The surprising foods to avoid that actually contribute to overheating – and what to eat instead
  • A handful of potent herbs you can use now to prevent Pitta aggravation later

Some previous knowledge or experience with Yoga is helpful. Class size is limited to keep the groups intimate – so reserve your seat now before it sells out!

Choose either:
Tuesdays 6 – 7:30 pm (April 30 – June 4)

or Thursdays 9:30 – 11 am (May 2 – June 6)

or Thursdays 6:30 – 8 pm (May 2 – June 6)

Held in a light-filled private studio in South Austin in a quiet neighborhood a mile from the old Alamo Cinema on South Lamar.

Ivy’s classes are introspective practices designed to help students reconnect with their center – the inner teacher – and to emerge feeling more at ease in the body and the psyche. Ivy designs each class using the lens of Ayurveda, choosing postures, sequences, and breathing practices to offset the potentially unbalancing influences in the current weather, season or time of day.
